IRS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

How long is the assessment?

The assessment takes between 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending upon the applicants' response time with the written exercises.

Does the applicant initially contact the Language Specialist to begin the assessment?

No. The Language Specialist calls and identifies himself/herself, and gives his or her contact information (telephone and fax numbers) to the applicant. The applicant will in turn call the specialist back to start the interview.

What does the applicant need for the assessment?

The applicant should have a working fax nearby, two pens and paper.

Who should I contact if I do not receive the pass/fail results within the allotted timeframe?

Contact TLD's IRS Assessment Project Manager, Nicole Wells.

What should an applicant do if he/she is uncertain of the translation of a word?

If the applicant is uncertain of the translation of one word, please leave a blank space where the word was to have appeared.

Where should the applicant send the 2 translations of the written portion of the exercise after he/she is completed?

The translations should be faxed to the Language Specialist who was identified at the start of the assessment.

What are the rating scales?

The applicant will receive a PASS rating if he/she possesses superior or good skills in writing in the foreign language, conversing in the foreign language and translating to/from English, with minimal errors or difficulty in comprehending speech. The applicant will receive a FAIL should his/her skills prove to be sub par in one or more of the skills.

Who should we contact should the Language Specialist fail to call at the scheduled time?

Should this occur, please contact the IRS Assessment Project Manager, Nicole Wells or 202-544-2942, immediately. Either an ad hoc specialist will provide the assessment within the hour, or the assessment would be rescheduled at no cost to the client.

Who should we contact should the applicant fail to appear for the assessment?
